What is a Project Manual?
A project manual covers all formal aspects of a project, like documentation, status reports, MTA, minutes, URD, etc. It serves as a checklist and helps to trace the project process. The project manual has to be regarded as a supporting tool, so that project members can focus on technical and professional matters of the project. Furthermore, it makes it easier for the lecturer to compare different students’ projects because of the standardised project implementation.
Which benefit has the project manual for you?
The project manual contains most of the necessary templates for organising the project, thereby you can save a lot of time. Furthermore, it is verified by the lecturer.
Have you got to fill out all documents?
No, you do not have to fill out all documents. At the beginning of the project manual there is a table of all project relevant documents the project leader or coordinator has to fill out. The documents which are not necessary for the project are to be deleted from the folder structure.

How long does it take to fill out the project manual?
The estimated time for filling out the project manual for the first time is about 4 to 5 hours.
How do you handle the project manual?
First of all you have to read the following guidelines to understand the process of the project manual. Furthermore there is a synoptical table of all documents and templates. You have to rename the project Manual folder with your project identification code. (project identification code_PM). Next you have to rename the project manual as well (project identification code_PM.doc). The title of the project manual, which is the title of your project, should be changed in File – Properties. Finally, you have to work through the whole document and fill out the relevant passages.
